Kind of Bloop: An 8-Bit Tribute to Miles Davis →

Andy Baio is using Kickstarter — “a funding platform for artists, designers, filmmakers, musicians, journalists, inventors, bloggers, explorers…” that he is on the board of — to raise money for an 8-bit reinvention and 50th anniversary commemoration of Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue” album.

What would the pioneers of jazz sound like on a Nintendo Entertainment System? Coltrane on a C-64? Mingus on Amiga? For years, I’ve wondered what “chiptune jazz” would sound like, but there are only a tiny handful of jazz covers ever made.

To satisfy my curiosity — and commemorate the 50th anniversary of Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue” — I’ve asked five brilliant chiptune musicians to collaborate and reinvent the entire album in the 8-bit sound.

He’s also blogged about the project here.

Physicists Prove That Vampires Could Not Exist →

Two physicists have published an academic paper where they demonstrate, by virtue of geometric progression, that vampires could not exist, since they would almost immediately deplete their entire food supply (a.k.a, all of us).

Awesome Outtakes

Not quite substantial enough for a full post, but awesome in their own right, I present the first edition of #awesome outtakes.

  • I have no idea how to describe this animated gif, but it would be a mistake not to click it. Tagged “awesome” by Delicious user teanau.

  • This Twitter search illustrates what happened when inky tweeted “I am awesome. #awesome”. Unsurprisingly, a lot of Twitterers think they are awesome.

  • Also via inky on Twitter is this strange video of what appears to be a robot making Japanoise music. Robots = instant awesome.

  • This remote controlled truck combines Lego, remote control, and wheelies for an undefinable amount of awesome. Tagged “awesome” by Delicious user _aasch

  • This is the trailer for The Hurt Locker, a film about an elite Army bomb squad unit in Iraq. Tagged “awesome” by numerous Twitter users, but first by orangearrows.

  • In this video we see over 1,500 zombies descend on Melbourne in the Melbourne Zombie Shuffle ‘09. Tagged “awesome by Vimeo user MinistryOfAwesum.

Sir Critter T-shirts →

Isn’t it about time nature got with the program and started showing a little refinement, maybe even a hint of elegance? For some reason animals just can’t seem to get their act together, so let us provide nature an example to live by with these fine t-shirts emblazoned with classy critters.
